This is a tough one... I admit that it is inevitable having to use animals during the early stage of clinical research but this should be regulated and monitored seriously. There is absolutely no excuse of torturing animals, inflicting pain etc.
Science has come a long way. I find it hard to believe that testing on animals is still the only way to test products. I get where this post is coming from but if we all decided to boycott pharma that uses animal testing the industry would be forced to find another way and I don't think it would be that difficult for them to find.
Question is, if this is how we treat other sentinent lifeforms (torutring them for our benefit) what are we gonna tell aliens when they discover us? What if they think they are superior to us? We can't argue that it would be immoral for them to conduct "human testing" for their benefit because we ourselves make a bad example. On a larger scale we have to decide in what kind of universe we want to live. One where we try not to hurt each other regardless of species or one where dominant species do whatever they want with the weaker ones.Considering that our weak primate species became what it is today, because we banded together and defended each other from superior predators, the answer is clear.
wow @anna I truly never thought of it that way. Such a good point and an interesting perspective.
Always happy when someone understands me. :)
