        OK. Let's start with the basics:

        What primary sources do we have for Socrates' existence outside of Plato's writing, or that do not rely explicitly on Plato's writings as evidence?

          @citizenthom I doubt that you will find primary sources proving that historic figures who lived and died 1000s of years ago really existed. So if this is you main argument, then probably none of the ancient philosophers existed and they were just mythological figures? Apart from Plato, there have been many more who refer to Socrates like Aristophanes, Xenophon, Aristotle etc. so having a number of secondary sources confirming his contribution might actually be the best we can do.

        Well this is really interesting. I wouldn't dismiss this right away. I would like to take a closer look at both of their philosophies and see if there is anything there that gives him away...
