Let's leave the abortion factor out here. Planned Parenthood is most important as a resource to people–especially adolescents–who do not have access to the information they need to be safe. The reality is, kids don't feel comfortable talking to their parents and teachers about sex. PP gives them a place to get info, get testes for STIs, get birth control, etc.

@drsteve Yeah, let's trust the state instead of our family members.

@meta_self Yes, let's trust abusive and controlling family members over trained medical professionals there to help.

@arkle You say that about your mother too?

My Mom's pro-choice. Which means I was wanted. Unlike you who probably only exists because the condom broke.

@arkle lol wow. What are you 5? Go ask you mom for an actual argument.

@meta_self thank you for keeping our site civil and focused on debate rather than childish insults.

Very happy to have users like you setting the debate tone we want to have.

@madanat1985 "thank you for keeping our site civil and focused on debate rather than childish insults. "

You're saying this about the guy who called my BFF a "blue haired troll doll."

@arkle I did not see that... needless to say, any personal insults on a debating site (or elsewhere) are childish regardlesss who says it..

We won't be able to closely monitor the tone when the site grows so I hope to enforce that while we still can.

Always good to have you both here just please try and keep it civil (this includes troll name calling ;)

@madanat1985 lol I was only calling her what she called me; a form of bantar.

She said I was a troll, and I pointed out her hair and said she actually looked like a troll doll.

Nevertheless, my argument did not rest on her looks, but on her blatant redefinition of the debate terms, in order to suit her argument.

@meta_self "Nevertheless, my argument did not rest on her looks, but on her blatant redefinition of the debate terms, in order to suit her argument."

The whole point of the topic you created was to co-opt the language of the Left to make a ludicrous argument against marriage equality, and you accuse Dee Dee is redefining terms?

I know it would go against the spirit of the site but sweet Jebus I wish we had a block button.

      @arkle it's coming ...

@arkle My argument wasn't against gay marriage idiot.

Why do you assume PP has a monopoly on women's healthcare?

@meta_self not exactly what I was getting at. The burden of sexual education falls on schools but unfortunately it is not comprehensive. Planned Parenthood provides birth control to those who feel they cannot get it from their family doctor (many of these adolescents are under their family's insurance plan and would like to keep their sexual lives private).

Not to mention, many women go to PP for their annual exams and pap smears and/or to confirm a pregnancy. PP also provides STD testing and counseling. They are exceptionally necessary.

@meta_self Sounds like you misunderstood. I never said that PP offered services that are exclusive to their clinics, which is all that this video is saying. PP is an extremely trusted name that both men and women know they can always turn to. They are very good at making sure women know every single option that is available to them.

I'm also not sure that providing propaganda from a far-right, conservative, religious organization as evidence gives you the strongest case.

@drsteve Evidence is what counts, not persons.
You assume PP is the only one giving out these services.

@meta_self ADF is not a reliable source. They are a Right Wing Christian organization, and they lie constantly to push a radical Christian agenda that is anti-woman, anti-gay, and anti-science.

And I am not even remotely shocked you listen to them.

@arkle That's not a valid argument. You didn't address their points or the support for them.
      Typical ducking.

@meta_self Yes it is. You are bolstering your argument with a video made by an organization that traffics in religiously motivated hate. You seem to think that is okay.

      https://www.splcenter.org/20160211/religious-liberty-and-anti-lgbt-right

And look at that, they oppose marriage equality, much like you do. So I get to continue calling you a bigot, and it remains true.

@arkle Again, you haven't addressed their points or the support for them.

@meta_self I didn't even bother watching the video. I have been aware of this organization for years. They are trash. They are the same type of garbage organization that feeds bigots like you what they want to hear, just like Project Veritas or Fox News.

Your main source for your argument is crap, therefore your argument is crap. You lose. Good day sir.

      @arkle " I didn't even bother watching the video."

      QFT

@meta_self You shouldn't have watched it either, but I guess you prefer propaganda to truth.

@arkle I have an open mind, unlike you.

@meta_self "I have an open mind, unlike you."

If by "I have an open mind" you mean "I get my information from anti-gay, anti-choice religious zealots that peddle propaganda under the guise of defending the First Amendment even as they seek to undermine the Establishment Clause of said Amendment" then yes, absolutely.

I won't watch that BS propaganda video for the same reason I don't go to the KKK newspaper for information about the Flint water crisis.

      @arkle You're filled with assumptions.

Why don't you learn to have a discussion with people who disagree with you, rather than berate and insult them?

@meta_self "Why don't you learn to have a discussion with people who disagree with you, rather than berate and insult them?"

This isn't about a mere disagreement you moron. "I prefer Star Trek, but you prefer Star Wars" is a disagreement.

The ADF actively opposes reproductive freedom and the rights of LGBTQ based on an ultra-conservative interpretation of Christianity. You don't play nice with people like that, you oppose them.

Unlike you meta, I actually believe human rights applies to all humans. Including the gay ones who wanna get married, and the Native ones who don't want their sacred symbols slapped on overpriced t-shirts, and the Black ones who don't want to murdered by overzealous (at best, racist at worst ) cops.

I may be louder and meaner than you, sure. But I'm still the much better man. Becuase I'm not a fucking bigot who spreads Right Wing propaganda and tries to pass it off as valid argument.

      Delete. Your. Account.

@arkle Focus on their points. And who cares if they have an opinion. They are a NGO and have no power of the law.

lol what human rights do I disagree with? And how do you know what is a right?

You problem is thinking any of this makes you "better". You should be here to learn and listen to others. Not virtue signal.

      @meta_self "Focus on their points."

By points you means lies and./or facts twisted out context.

"And who cares if they have an opinion."

You'd say that about the Nazis if they were around today. Don't say you wouldn't your attitudes prove otherwise.

"They are a NGO and have no power of the law. "

They reach people (like you) who are gullible and can be led to believe that myth that Christianity is somehow under attack in America, and elected officials will pander to these people to get votes or they run for office themselves and get in with the votes of other gullible idiots who then pass laws that are written under the false assumptions the ADF creates and that stupid people like you believe at face value because you are dumb.

"lol what human rights do I disagree with?"

The right of protest, the right to keep one's culture to themselves, consenting adults enjoying the benefits of marriage regardless of if their genitals are different or not...

"You should be here to learn and listen to others."

I have nothing to learn from propagandists.

      "Not virtue signal."

*LOL* Did you seriously just use that stupid ass term seriously? Wow.

Ladies, gentleman, and those not yet sure, it is offiical. @meta_self has NOTHING of value to say. They use the term virtue signaling unironically. Beyond acknowledging that they are a fellow human being, they deserve no repsect whatsoever.

@arkle Well you gotta show how they twist the facts without just calling them bigots.

Well people are open to believe what they want. Go join a Nazi group, but the moment they hurt someone they get arrested.

The right of protest has nothing to do with blocking traffic.

Well you can't learn then because you're closed minded. You can learn from anything and anyone.

Yes, the term is valid for those like you who propose moral superiority.

@meta_self "Well you gotta show how they twist the facts without just calling them bigots. "

And we shouldn't call bigots what they are because...? Seriously, what excuse could you possibly have that can't be boiled down to "Becuase it makes them feel uncomfortbale and we should care about the feelings of people who actively seek to harm everyone else's feelings"?

"Yes, the term is valid for those like you who propose moral superiority."

It's a neo-reactionary buzzword used by the same people who say "SJeW" and "I'm not a Nazi, I'm a Whtie Nationalist. That's totally different."

Well, it is now anyway. As the video I posted pointed it, as originally conceived the term was a call to action against Leftists who seem to think that just wearing a t-shirt with the slogan of a cause they believe in was all the effort they needed to put in.

But then, as the video's host says, the idiots got their hands on it.

And you're using the term the way the idiots redefined it. Hence why I think it's valid to call you an idiot.

@arkle You shouldn't call people names when debating. It's not productive.

Again, the word has a definition which applies to you. You're committing a genetic fallacy.

@meta_self I'm curious...do you oppose Planned Parenthood because you disagree with abortion? Or is there another reason?

@gosox45 I think abortion should be legal but discouraged.
PP trades human organs for profit; I'd like to see them defunded and fend for themselves.

If they are truly a value to the community, then they can make their own money and not steal it from the taxpayer.

@arkle I have been reading your "responses" with amusement wondering when your name-calling strategy would get around to comparing your opponent to Nazis, and sure as the sun rises....

@meta_self ummmm I'm gonna need to see some reliable sources here...

@lcornell6 you know what's funny, he is actually shockingly polite and civilized in this video. Watch the last 10 minutes:

      @aidennn_tv For what?

I live in Texas when, when Texas cut funding for planned Parenthood mortality rates for pregnant women went up by 12% it's a legitimate healthcare provider. Get ready to see that at the national level.
