super interesting topic....
And thanks to @jb043 for being a civil and considerate opponent. I hope our paths cross on here in the future discussing a topic we disagree on more. :)
@theantifeminist Mad sources dude! I would post mine but like I didn't really use them enough to quote them. Cheers for a solid debate! Likewise :)
? What happened?
@ldempsy the debate ended - which is a shame I would have liked to keep going
@ldempsy The debate ended? Are you having technical issues?
@theantifeminist just a bit abrupt closing lol. Very cool debate!
@theantifeminist that's an important distinction to make, between GGM for the prevention of illnesses that are passed genetically and choosing the color of your baby's eyes. Two verrrrrrrry different things using the same exact process
@pokemaster Yeah, and since I'm the one who is opening the arguments and I'm against that, so is my opponent, there's no debate.
Rich people can design their babies, poor people can't. That is the real argument here
@erica_binz55 That will depend on healthcare. They may choose to cover germline mod if it is used to prevent a hereditary illness, in which case anyone will healthcare will be able to take advantage of it
@theantifeminist I feel like this debate was easier for you since you made Genetic germline modification conditional. Would have been more difficult to try and defend choosing hair color etc. I feel like that can't be taken out of the argument since it is an implication of this treatment in general.
@japes16 agreed, I think the debate would've been completely different if the assumption was that allowing GGM means allowing it in all capacities and not just for dire health situations.
@japes16 yeah RIP me as soon as he did that he mitigated all of my material - although given the actual topic I should have tried a little harder to keep there. But it's done now so
I think the overpopulation argument is SO problematic. Let's just stop researching cancer cures then...
@torimarie clearly you didn't listen to the rest of @jb043 's argument. And it was a small point that he made, listen to the rest of his points
never thought I'd agree with @theantifeminist...
@riley88 I'm glad you agreed instead of forcing yourself to disagree just because you don't like me. I respect that.
