great point @jeffery95014...
@gigi What?Normally that ellipsis means you have something to add.
@jeffery95014 you said it all! :-)
@arkle I didn't know there were any on this site.
@bubba Several. Thing is, they deny being that despite using their slogans and dogwhistles without a hint of irony, and for the dumber among this site's userbase them just saying "I'm not a White Supremacist" is enough for them to go "Oh okay. I guess you aren't then. Hurp de do."
@arkle can you name some of them and give examples that demonstrate their bigotry?
@bubba Okay. There's this one guy who guys by the username deusvult.Let's start with his name. By itself, it means nothing, but when put in context with everything else... http://www.economist.com/blogs/democracyinamerica/2017/01/medieval-memesHis avatar is him wearing a Pepe the Frog mask. This again means nothing by itself, but when you combine it with everything else I'm presenting, you get a case of 2 + 2 = Nazi. https://www.adl.org/education/references/hate-symbols/pepe-the-frogPut those two things together with the fact that he uses the term "ethnomasochism" unironically. A phrase popularized by Far Right, racist extremists. ethnomasochismAnother White Supremacist/Nationalist dogwhistle he uses is the term "race realism" which is relaly just anti-POC racism amsquerading as hard sceince. It's the racist f***stick's desperate attempt to hide the fact that their ideas are awful by pretending that they have genetics on their side. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_racismBut I don't have video of him burning a cross on someone's lawn, so to certain (stupid) people that means he can't be racist, because there is a pathetically ignorant subset of society that refuses to acknoweldge any but the most overt and violent forms of racism as being racist at all.
@arkle I actually agree with you on this one.Good job!
lol this post is about @arkle
@meta_self I doubt it. I mean, for that to be true, @jeffery95014 would have to not know the difference between an actual ad hominem attack and a good old fashioned insult.
@arkle Insults should be done sparingly. It erodes civil discourse and should only be used when it's good for a light hearted laugh.
definitely. And the thing is (depending on what your goal is), being disrespectful is the worst way to get someone to listen to you and actually consider what you're saying. Sometimes it takes a little manipulation to try and get through to someone...
