    Unfortunately, yes.

    Though it's worth pointing out that the American Left by and large doesn't make it's scientifically illeterate their party's nominee for President. We usually just mock them.

    Name one Democratic Party nominee for President who pandered to anti-vaxxers. I'll wait.

          I think the vast majority who claim to understand science refuse to explain it (or are unable to) but use ad verecundiam fallacies to push policies based on their ignorance.

            @jeffery95014 it's a disagreement about proportion, I'd argue that those who believe they are grounded in science don't have the ability to explain the science. It's the overwhelming majority of both parties to argue from ignorance but advocate policies contradictory to scientific evidence (drug policy for example).
