Children growing up now socialize COMPLETELY differently than 20 years ago. They are constantly influenced by tv, movies, and social media that what their parents try to instill in them is practically moot.
@jessvdb before kids even come into contact with social media they have years of being socialized by their parents. Their parents are the ones who instill values of right and wrong, and they approach social media with these values.
that's interesting and a bit worrying too..
Sounds like your scope of reference is limited to bad parenting. I am a parent and know that if I instill the right values from birth, before kids are exposed to social media, they will approach it in a different way. They will be able to identify what is good about it and what is bad.
@stella I disagree with the debate statement but for different reasons. Let's not forget that nature also plays a part when it comes to temperament of a child, not just nurture.
Behavioral genetics studies as well as adopted and unadopted sibling studies repeatedly demonstrate that parenting and home environment have only marginal influences on most personality and behavioral traits. As far as the population varience in these traits goes, the breakdown is generally regarded as roughly 40-50% genetics ~50% unique environment/experience & 0-10% shared environment/parenting.Will provide sorces if requested.
