I just want to see where some of our debaters stand on objectivity. Please comment your position.
Objectivity is the destination we hope to reach after navigating our biases.
@sorrack have you ever REALLY reached this destination though?
Philosophically, I'm a subjectivist in many respects. Subjectivity is our human nature. We can't completely escape it. And in some cases, I think we should embrace it. The fact that we all see the universe with unique eyes and minds is pretty wonderful. But when we want to cooperate or make accurate predictions about our world, we have to try and strip away as much subjectivity as we can muster. And that gets a lot of good things done.I value objectivity in many things. But I suppose I agree in the sense that I will never arrive at full objectivity, but it is a road I go down fairly often to try and realize value from it.
@sigfried I would replace" stripping away subjectivity " with " establish a broader perspective " but aside from that I couldn't agree more.
@jrountrey I wasn't sure what you meant by the topic, but by the time I got done writing my response, I think I got the idea and was in agreement.
