@julian thanks for a great discussion!
@gugs how would you like to debate someone from the United Kingdom on this gugs? https://www.qallout.com/debate/6221-in-the-israelpalestine-issue-israel-is-the-aggressor/record
Once again a polite discussion. Just a little frustrating as "con" kept on trolling out the (very much outdated) cliques re: teaching Palestinians to "hate jews". I mean, to think that Palestinian kids might actually hate what's being done to them by their oppressors!! This made for a somewhat unexciting "debate" as con clearly is not well read on the facts, and those he does know are almost completely outdated. I'm a little surprised "pro" let him get away with claiming that the settlements (AKA racial colonies) occupied an "insignificant area of land" (I just wonder how he'd feel if someone built over his own back yard) and should have jumped on this I feel. However, I realise it was a discussion not a debate so well done both.
@bookman How is it outdated? Also, the assertion is not simply that they instill hate in their kids but that their formal curriculum teaches them to *kill* Jews.In any case it's not outdated at all. I posted some links in the comments.Why is the entire West Bank the Palestinians' backyard?!Also, if someone would build in my actual backyard, do you think I would kill him? Do you think if I wanted to I could get away with it, or that it would be defensible at all?Also we're not talking about two individuals. If other Arabs would build a town in that region no one would complain. So why are Jews so "othered" by them?
@gugs lol. Please send me evidence of this curriculum. If you want evidence of how Israel on the other hand teaches hatred and disrespect towards Arabs then look no further than Nurit Peled-Elhanan's book "Palestine in Israeli School Books". Nurit is a Jewish Israeli citizen (daughter of Israeli General Mati Paled). You can find the book on Amazon. I have a copy myself. It's very interesting. Why is the entire West Bank the Palestinians' back yard. Er, well because it is. Israel is an occupying force, there illegally under International Law & The Geneva Convention. UN res. 242 (ordering Israel out) still applies today. Does your back yard belong to you or can I come and build on it?I think you are completely removed from reality regarding the Palestinians buildings of homes/towns. Since the beginning of hostilities Israel has demolished 52,000 Palestinian homes. Palestinians find it virtually impossible to obtain building permits. I know this because a good friend of mine is Jeff Halper (I hosted him here in my home town in May this year), the President of The Israeli Committe Against House Demolitions. Again, a Jewish Israeli Citizen and Nobel Prize nominee, who's research is second to none. I think you are simply blind to the reality gugs.
@gugs just for the record gugs, did French school kids hate the Nazis?
@gugs you may want to watch this if you really consider Joan Peter's book valid.....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6To-o-aiRg
@bookman can’t wait to watch this later. How long do you think it will before Duechawitz is locked up over Epstein?
@julian the Finkelstein/Durs interview is classic. Finkelstein was actually ousted from his teaching post in revenge. I can imagine (sadly) that Durs will wheedle his way out of the Epstein thing somehow. Already Trump is disowning Epstein so I can imagine deals will be done...
@bookman I’ve met Finklestien before. It’s sad.
@bookman and just remembered that Lawerence Wilkerson claims he received threatening emails from Duechawitz for simply mentioning the “Israel Lobby” book in a class lecture.
@bookman ha, I actually watched that years ago! That was before I actually read the book. Also, after watching a lot of Finkelstein on YouTube (at that time, years ago), my conclusion was that he's either insincere or a nut (or both).As far as I recall the video was mainly him accusing Dershowitz of plagiarism. Not sure if that's what you're referring to or he somehow refutes the mountains of data in the book?
@bookman re the validity of the book... to clear, I don't generally consider _anything_ valid just because someone wrote it or said it... that said it has mountains of data in it, so it would need more than a youtube video to refute.The author states, IIRC, that she originally was mostly sympathetic to the Palestinians, but the research that she did for the book completely changed the book's direction and her views. Of course, that is not data, only her story... is she lying about that too?
@gugs how would I know. The book has been hailed as a great propaganda coup for Israel (so must be full of lies lol!)
